Glen Jaffe here. One of the owners of San Diego Computer Consulting. We here at SDCC are always doing our best to stay ahead of the curve making sure our clients are secure and that their data is safe and protected. Email is a big source of attacks for nefarious individuals and organizations committing cybercrime and looking for their next victim.
Ironscales is a new product suite that San Diego Computer Consulting is offering in our wheelhouse. Ironscales, is a pre-scan email service that is plugged into either Office 365 or Microsoft Exchange. It reviews emails and looks for impersonators, phishing attempts, or spear phishing attacks.
San Diego Computer Strongly suggests this service because the attacks which were once more noticeable in the past, are becoming less and less here in the present. Often times emails look legit but their looks are deceiving.
Ironscales concentrates on the following types of email attacks:
Impersonator Emails
We are seeing an increase of emails with hackers saying they have your passwords, personal information and other private data. We are seeing an increase emails where there is an imposter who is using your name to email you. Or, using an email from your company pretending to be a fellow peer. These bogus messages are phishing emails. The email come through unverified ‘pass-through’ email servers from nefarious individuals and often hacking companies from outside the US.
Phishing Attack
Phishing attack is often used to steal user data, including login credentials and credit card numbers. It occurs when an attacker, masquerading as a trusted entity, dupes a victim into opening an email, instant message, or text message. The attacks become targeted often to induce targeted individuals to reveal targeted information.
Ironscales runs automatically as a service. It checks each and every email that comes to your organization. It checks to make sure the sender is legitimate through a series of email verification methods. It also looks an federation database of emails and compares to see if this email has sent to other organizations. Lastly, it looks to see if others have reported this email message or sender as suspicious.
The Ironscales protection service adds a plug-in for Outlook provides real-time defense for organizations from impersonation and phishing attacks by safeguarding users from all inbound emails. This plugin is added automatically.
Caught Emails are managed through a central database. This database holds all suspicious emails and gives the customer or administrator insight into that email. The interface has great detail as to the origins of any suspicious email.
