Rackspace finally admitted that their email system was hacked by Ransomware.
Their customers have been down for days and it has been a scramble. We know all about this situation and it is very painful and disruptive. We have lived through this before at SDCC. The magnitute of this at Rackspace is unimagionable. Their total Exchange System was attacked and brought to its knees. As to why there is no backup and standby solution, that is hard to answer considering they toute it is a 30million venture for them. Nonetheless, the Exchange failure must be very extensive. Assuming they are recovering their systems, their people are can only take so much time to hand hold each of their clients to get back on track with their email history, contacts, and calendars. It is very important to understand that to move your data in Outlook is complicated.
The export of email, calendar, contacts need to be carefully set and moved. This is typically work that requires IT expertise and cannot be done without remote access and hands-on. This is not the type of work we like to do in an emergency becuase of the desperate situation everyone is in.
